Administrative Director
John Tonna brings a diverse background in operations, public affairs, and community engagement, with experience spanning project coordination, transportation logistics, emergency storm response, and nonprofit management. A former New York State Park Lifeguard, John served at Sunken Meadow State Park during the 2016 summer season and at Jones Beach State Park Field 2 during the 2017 and 2018 summers, where he developed a strong appreciation for ocean rescue, public safety, and the camaraderie of the lifeguard service.
Today, John serves as Managing Director of the Jones Beach Lifeguard Association, where he helps lead efforts to preserve the proud history and traditions of New York State Park Lifeguards while supporting current and former members through advocacy, community outreach, alumni engagement, and water safety initiatives. He is also involved in developing programs that promote lifeguard education, mentorship, and youth involvement in lifesaving activities.
Professionally, John works with organizations throughout Long Island in the nonprofit, transportation, construction, and land-use sectors. He also leads internship and young professional development initiatives designed to connect emerging leaders with meaningful civic and community engagement opportunities.
Committed to giving back to the community, John actively supports numerous nonprofit and charitable organizations across Long Island, particularly those focused on environmental conservation, food insecurity, housing, and public service.
John earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Villanova University and currently resides in Huntington, New York.
