Since 1929, the lifeguards of Jones Beach have stood watch over Long Island’s shores, building a proud tradition of courage, professionalism, and public service. What began with a small group of dedicated guards almost a hundred years ago has grown into an inter-generational community, with more than 500 lifeguards protecting beaches across the Long Island region today. The Jones Beach Lifeguard Association honors this legacy by supporting training, promoting water safety, and strengthening the bonds between active and alumni guards. Rooted in nearly a century of lifesaving, JBLA celebrates the people, traditions, and commitment that help keep our beaches among the safest in the nation.
Our lifeguard training covers everything candidates need to enter the water with confidence and exit with a life saved. Students learn swim and rescue techniques, proper entry methods for emergency response, victim retrieval, and how to manage aquatic emergencies from first contact to handoff. Certification meets national standards and is recognized by employers and government agencies. Visit Nassau county lifeguard training for more information.*
